Maxwell’s House of Abilities Launches ‘Dress for Success’ Program for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Houston, TX – February 19, 2020 – Maxwell’s House of Abilities, the non-profit working in aid of children with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is pleased to announce that the Dress for Success Program their first event will be held Saturday, February 22 at 2611 Cypress creek Parkway A101 Houston, Texas.

The Dress for Success Program aims to give clothing to 1,000 children in 2020! The program has been created by Founder Christina Shelley to continue to help families and take the organization’s mission forward even when funds for the non-profit are not easily forthcoming.

Through this program, we want to help families have one less thing to worry about when it comes to parenting a child with special needs. As a mother of a son with autism, I can tell you first hand, he is extremely sensitive about his clothing.  If they’re too tight, too rough or if there’s a tag inside, this can get his day off on a wrong start,” says Christina.

While such clothing matters may appear minor to many people, for children on the spectrum they can be big problems due to sensory issues. According to Christina, the less sensory issues arise in the morning with the clothes, the more open and receptive her son is to therapy services and social interactions.

In 2020, Maxwell’s House of Abilities aims to empower bright futures for children on the Autism Spectrum and those with special needs. The non-profit wants to offer real-time services and resources to children on the spectrum, a need not being met despite much research being undertaken.

Real-time services include efforts to ensure that children have clothing, early intervention in the forms of speech therapy, occupational therapy and ABA therapy, and making them affordable and tangible for families. It is undeniable and also supported by research, that early intervention helps children achieve their maximum potential.

Maxwell’s House of Abilities offers many services such as helping find funding and offering to fund such services as mentioned above. It also educates parents on IDEA laws and their rights within the school system. As a non-profit, it depends on going through rounds of fundraising so as to continue to offer funding for therapy services and co-payment services.

Maxwell’s House of Abilities also welcomes its new partner, Cultured Realty and the broker of record Janelle Malone, who believes strongly in the education and success of the youth. Malone will offer a portion of their  sale from Cultured Realty, while also giving access to their space for community clothing pickups for the Dress for Success Program and also other events.
