At the Baidu World 2018, a yearly event hosted by the internet giant on November 1, Baidu unveiled both its AI technology applications in the theme of “Yes, AI DO“ and its innovative products. Among which, Baidu revealed the autonomous vehicle Touring jointly developed with JMC (Jiangling Motors Co., Ltd.).
At the mention of self-driving, Google and Baidu come to our mind first. And Forbes pointed out that, quoting from market analysis, “Baidu might finally have the biggest say in world autonomous driving vehicles market, thanks to its advanced algorithm, sound relations with business partners and strong support from government.” Baidu has initiated its autonomous driving growth route from strategic planning in 2013 to Apollo being unveiled in April, 2017. The rumored three pillar players BAT model didn’t happen, instead, Baidu, the first company that started driverless technology R&D in China, standing out from its peers, grew rapidly to the frontrunner in autopilot.
JMC works with Baidu at such a deep level, symbolizing that JMC is at the forefront in autopilot home and abroad.
Based on the technology framework offered by Baidu Apollo autopilot platform, and JMC-Ford strict management system as well as rich experience in mass production, JMC team has re-designed the chassis drive-by-wire, electrical architecture, in-vehicle sensors and decision algorithm to meet the requirements of intelligent driving and has successfully developed the Level 4 autonomous vehicle Touring that suits several scenarios including logistic distribution and industrial parks shuttles. This Level 4 autonomous vehicle Touring will provide service on trial basis inside JMC plant by the end of this year and be applied to public areas gradually.
